Nathan Diaz Is a Superstar
Nathan Diaz (21–13 MMA) has been featured in nine UFC main events. He has earned 15 performance bonuses. Moreover, Diaz has the fourth most submissions and total strikes in UFC history.
Never Accepted an Easy Fight
Diaz often receives criticism for the losses on his record. However, he’s always fought the toughest fighters within his division. Casual fans should stop associating Diaz with the term “journeyman” and start appreciating his desire to only compete against top contenders.
Diaz’s Last Three Opponents
Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (24–11 MMA) viciously knocked out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (15–4–1 MMA) at UFC Fight Night 148. This caught Diaz’s attention as he called for Pettis to be his next opponent. Diaz defeated Pettis by unanimous decision at UFC 241.
In only five seconds, Jorge Masvidal (35–15 MMA) knocked out Ben Askren (19–2 MMA) at UFC 239 and secured the fastest knockout in UFC history. Immediately after defeating Pettis, Diaz wanted Masvidal to be his next opponent. Diaz and Masvidal fought at UFC 244. Masvidal earned a win over Diaz due to a controversial doctor stoppage.
Leon Edwards (19–3 MMA) was the next fighter who Diaz desired to compete against. Diaz was looking to end Edwards’ impressive six-year winning streak. The two competed at UFC 263. Diaz landed more significant strikes than Edwards in the fourth and fifth rounds of the fight, but it was not enough to secure the victory. Edwards defeated Diaz by unanimous decision. However, Diaz received a significant amount of praise from the public for displaying his toughness and grit in the final minute of the fight.
Who’s Next For Diaz?
A rematch against Masvidal for the BMF belt is one option for Diaz. Both fighters were unsatisfied with the way their first fight ended.
A trilogy fight against Conor McGregor (22–5 MMA) is another option for Diaz. Diaz won their first fight at UFC 196 and McGregor won their second fight at UFC 202.
Many fans have also expressed interest in a fight between Diaz and Tony Ferguson (26–6 MMA). For one thing, they are both known for being in bloody and violent fights.
A True Warrior
In short, there aren’t many fighters who can compare themselves to Diaz. Any Diaz fight is pure entertainment — win, lose, or draw. His incredible cardio, perseverance, and durability are on display within each of his fights.
He’s shocked the world, delivered many memorable quotes, and has even slapped UFC President Dana White. There’s a reason why Diaz is must-see TV.
